Elmer Albert Korte, age 80, of Madrid, died November 22, at the Madrid Nursing Home in Madrid. Funeral services were November 24, at the First Reformed Church, Aplington. Interment was in Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg. Memorials may be directed to the American Alzheimer's Association.

Elmer was born August 1, 1924, the son of Albert John and Jennie Harms Korte. He received his education in various schools, the last one in Parkersburg. Elmer served in the United States Navy during World War II. Elmer was united in marriage with Gladyce Riekena on September 2, 1944. He received his High School diploma with his graduation class of 1944, while serving in the Navy.

Following his return home from the Navy, they made their home in Traer where he was a truck driver. Elmer was a printer for a variety of newspapers and lived in different towns throughout the rest of their marriage.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter in infancy; two brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by three sons, Karl (Ruthanne) Korte; Keith Korte, and Kurtis (Sue) Korte; three daughters, Karla (Don) Schlesselman; Karmen (Doug) Inman and Kayleen Taylor; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother, John Korte; two sisters, Frances Eilderts and Marian Bietelman; and one sister-in-law, Christina Korte.
