Rites Held For Arend Christians

Arend Christians of Wellsburg passed away on Friday, August 14, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls having attained the age of 81 years.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 17, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. John Frey officiating.

Pallbearers were Verne Eberline, James Ascher, Edwin Ascher, Robert deNeui, Ed Christians, and Donald DeNeui.

Burial was at the Shiloh Township Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Arend was born August 14, 1911 in Grundy County the son of Ed and Anna (Eckhoff) Christians. He grew up and was educated in Grundy County. He farmed all his life, first for area farmers, then for a time with his sister and husband Martha and Marlin Harms until his marriage.

Arend was united in marriage to Lucille DeNeui on January 4, 1940 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church parsonage. They made their home north of Holland, and later moved northeast of Wellsburg where they continued to farm and raise livestock. In 1973 they retired and moved into Wellsburg.

Arend was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Scott Teske in 1964; and two sisters, Martha Harms and Anna Ascher.

Survivors include his wife Lucille of Alden; one daughter, LaVine and husband Robert Teske of Alden; two grandchildren, Mark Teske of Richwood, TX, and Laurie (Mrs. Joe) Akers of Booneville; 2 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Chris Christians of Wellsburg.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
