Services Monday For Boomgaarden
Heye J. Boomgaarden passed away at the Eldora Memorial Hospital in Eldora around 6 o'clock Friday evening, Feb. 26, following a lingering illness. He was taken to the hospital for treatment on Friday morning. He reached the age of 79 years, 8 months and 5 days.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, March 1, at 2 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home. Rev. John H. Elenbaas was the officiating clergyman. Music was given by a ladies' duet, Mrs. Harlan Kolthoff and Mrs. Ivan Slifer, accompanied by Mrs. Ray Toomsen. Pallbearers were Rev. Lloyd Boomgaarden, Heine Boomgaarden, Ralph Boomgaarden, Lee Boomgaarden, Fritz Albers and Albert Huisman. Interment was made in Shiloh cemetery.
He was born in Germany on June 21, 1891, the son of Heye and Swantje (Feldman) Boomgaarden, Sr. At the age of 2 years he came to America with his family. They settled on a farm in Hardin County west of Wellsburg. The family moved to Wellsburg in 1913. Prior to this they lived in the Laurens, Iowa area for two years.
He was united in marriage to Miss Meta Smidt on Nov. 3, 1921 at White, South Dakota. Following their marriage they made their home in Wellsburg and have lived in Wellsburg all of their married life.
He and his brothers were engaged in the road construction business for many years. He later was engaged in selling feed in the Wellsburg area.
For the past 3 1/2 months he had been confined to the Valley View Nursing Center in Eldora.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Tade and George Boomgaarden.
Those who survive him are his wife, Meta, 2 brothers, Jake Boomgaarden of Steamboat Rock, Trinus Boomgaarden of Wellsburg and four nephews.
