Joel Lee Aalfs Buried Saturday
Funeral services for Joel Lee Aalfs were held on Saturday afternoon, January 27 at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 at the Second Christian Reformed Church.
Rev. John H. Elenbaas was the officiating clergyman. Music was given by Richard Schafer and Lary Riebkes who sang two duet numbers. Mrs. LuRay Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Elmer Fritzel and Mrs. Harold Okones.
Pall bearers were Lowell Aalfs, Murray Henricks, Terry Aalfs, Roger Kuiper, Raymond Kuiper and Allan Kuiper. Interment was made in Shiloh cemetery.
Joel Lee Aalfs passed away around 9 o'clock Wednesday morning, January 24, at the University hospitals in Iowa City due to complications of pneumonia. He had been taken to the hospital for treatment on January 1st. He reached the age of 18 years, 6 months and 10 days.
He was born on July 14, 1954 at Grundy Center, the son of Jacob Harm and Angeline (Kuiper) Aalfs. He attended the River Hills Special Education Class in Waterloo, the Special Education Class at Holland, and spent 4 months at the Pine Rest Children's Retreat in Grand Rapids, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Henry Kuiper, and one uncle, Henry Kuiper, Jr.
Those left to mourn his passing are: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Aalfs of rural Ackley; 2 brothers and 2 sisters: James Aalfs of Conrad, (Judy) Mrs. Leland Riebkes, of Wellsburg, John Aalfs of Wellsburg, and Miss Janet Aalfs at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Grace Kuiper, now confined to the Presbyterian Home in Ackley; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Aalfs of Wellsburg, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
