Martha Primus Services Held

Martha Primus, 91, of Wellsburg, passed away on Sunday, August 27, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 29, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church with burial in the church cemetery, both in rural Wellsburg. Pastor Tom Vos officiated the service.

Pallbearers were Fred Fisher, Marvin Fisher, Calvin Schneck, Claus Primus, Ben Primus and Brent Primus.

A memorial fund has been established.

Martha was born April 9, 1904, on a farm in Hardin County the daughter of Fred and Titia (Kollman) Fisher. She graduated from High School in Ackley in 1922, and then she taught in country schools.

On January 23, 1929, she was united in marriage with George B. Primus at the East Friesland Church, rural Ackley. After their marriage they farmed in Shiloh Township, Grundy County, until August 1970, when they moved to the house they built in Wellsburg.

Martha was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and was a charter member of the Ladies' Guild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1989; 1 infant son; her parents; 4 brothers, John, Joe, Julius and Arend; and 2 sisters, Nettie Schneck and Ida Janssen.

She is survived by her four daughters, Helen Faye Landhuis and her husband Henry of Des Moines, Marjorie Mulder and her husband Herb of Parkersburg, Gladys Brinks and her husband Ray of the Dominican Republic, and Carol Primus of Pella; 1 son, David Primus and his wife Judy of Steamboat Rock; 2 sisters, Marie Schneck of Ackley and Frieda Boll of Perry; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the professional arrangements.
