Funeral Thursday At Wellsburg For Mrs. Siebe Meyer

Mrs. Siebe H. Meyer passed away at her home in Wellsburg at 12:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2 due to complications of advanced age. She reached the age of 89 years and 21 days.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church.

Rev. John Elenbaas was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Harvin Meyer, organist. Two duet numbers were sung by Mrs. Harold Okones and Thomas Claassen. Miss Marcella Neessen was accompanist. Flower attendants were Mrs. J. L. Fischer and Mrs. Ben Peters. Pall bearers were Harvey Getting, Harvin Meyer, Alvin Harms, Boyd Meyer, Glenn H. Siefken and Milton DeNeui. Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.

She was born Nantje Riekena, on Aug. 11, 1885, on a farm northwest of Wellsburg, the daughter of Evert W. and Geertje (Stohr) Riekena. She attended the rural school in the area. On April 1, 1903 she was united in marriage to Siebe H. Meyer at the parsonage of the Wellsburg Reformed Church by the Rev. J. G. Thielken. Following their marriage they made their home on the Riekena home place farm four miles west and one mile north of Wellsburg. Mr. Meyer passed away Aug. 10, 1973. In October of 1973 she moved to Wellsburg to make her home.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents, her husband, a daughter, Clara, at the age of 10, one sister, Mrs. Fredericka Mennenga, and a son-in-law, James DeNeui.

She leaves to mourn her passing: 6 daughters and 3 sons; (Gertie) Mrs. James DeNeui of Wellsburg; (Minnie) Mrs. David Taffinder of Wellsburg; (Eva) Mrs. Fred Widmann of Waterloo; Clarence Meyer of Cedar Falls; (Freda) Mrs. Joe Boelman of Steamboat Rock; Edward Meyer of Washington, Mo.; Harley Meyer of Phoenix, Ariz.; (Clareen) Mrs. Robert Baehr of Kansas City, Mo.; Donna Meyer of North Kansas City, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 6 step great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
