Johanna Mennenga Services Held

Johanna Mennenga, 75, of Wellsburg, passed away Friday, January 17, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 20, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church, Wellsburg, with burial following in the church cemetery. Pastor Tom Vos officiated the service.

Pallbearers were Clarence Freese, Whitey Ross, Marvin VanLoh, Rick Riebkes, Frank Meyeraan, Jr., and Melvin Nederhoff.

A memorial fund has been established.

Johanna was born on November 30, 1921, to Menno and Henrietta (Krull) VanLoh at her parents home in German Township, Grundy County. She attended grade school at the German Township #8 Schoolhouse and had one year of high school at Wellsburg. She was baptized on March 5, 1922, and she became a member of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church on March 28, 1943.

On October 28, 1949, she was united in marriage to Jans T. Mennenga at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley. They moved to Wellsburg in 1980.

She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, Wellsburg Senior Citizens, Ladies Guild of First Christian Reformed Church, and Life Group and Bible Study Group.

Johanna enjoyed people and watching her grandchildren grow up and participating in various activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jans in 1990; her parents; and one granddaughter, Katie Mennenga in 1985.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice Koch and husband Paul and children Carmen, Carla and Cathy of Wellsburg; sons, Marlyn and wife Karen and children Kerri, Ryan and Faith of Wellsburg, and Jay and wife Connie and children Trent, Scott and Zachary of Wellsburg; 1 brother, John M. VanLoh of Ackley; 3 sisters, Esther (Mrs. Alvin) Boyenga, Everdena (Mrs. Byron) Arends and Mrs. Helen Benning, all of Ackley.
