Services Held For Harriett L. Janssen

Harriett Janssen, 84, of Wellsburg, passed away on Monday, July 20, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church rural Wellsburg with Pastor Tom Vos officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Pallbearers were Robert Janssen, Charles Janssen, Bill Janssen, Jr., William Anderson, Matt Janssen and Marlyn Peters.

Harriett was born on March 1, 1914, in Colfax Township, Grundy County, the daughter of John S. and Henrietta (Smit) Dirks. She graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1931 and attended Grundy College for a year. On June 28, 1949, she was united in marriage with John B. Janssen on a farm west of Wellsburg. She worked in the Farmers Savings Bank in Grundy Center for fifty years retiring in 1987. Harriett was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and Queen Esther Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jay Edward Dirks; and 2 sisters in infancy.

Survivors include her husband, John B. of Wellsburg; sister Hilda Janssen of Wellsburg; 2 sisters-in-law, Janet Williams of Wellsburg and Annabelle Dirks of Santa Cruz, California; and several other nieces and nephews.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
