Gratus Geerdes Services Held

Gratus J. Geerdes, 85, of Wellsburg, passed away Wednesday, August 5, at the Presbyterian Home of Ackley of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Friday, August 7, at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg.

Pallbearers were Glen Bakker, Jeff Huisman, Ralph Mohwinkle, Sid Penning, Rick Huisman, and Mark Geerdes.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Gratus was born in Grundy County the son of John and Gertie Ruter Geerdes on March 9, 1907. He attended school in Wellsburg. On September 10, 1938 he was united in marriage to Taran Stubbe in Wellsburg.

Gratus had farmed until his retirement in 1970. He had been a member of the church consistory and the men's forum of the church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tarana on June 7, 1982; a son, Eugene Lynn on March 23, 1950; his parents; 4 brothers; and 4 sisters.

He is survived by two sons, James and Robert of Wellsburg; two daughters, Norma Huisman and Marcia Beving both of Wellsburg, 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and a sister, Grace Bakker of Wellsburg.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
