Herman Eckhoff Dies Wednesday Of Heart Attack

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, August 9, 1975 for Herman Eckhoff at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Harold Hollander was officiating clergyman. Richard Schafer sang two selections. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Marion Primus and Mrs. Emery Riekena. Pall bearers were Harlyn Riekena, Claus G. Primus, Willis Bakker, C. A. Janssen, Irwin Abels, and Albert Zimmerman. Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Herman J. Eckhoff was taken from this life very suddenly on Wednesday afternoon, August 6, 1975, at the Ackley Medical Center in Ackley due to an apparent heart attack. He reached the age of 57 years, 10 months and 10 days.

He was born in Wright County, Iowa, near Kanawha, the son of John A. and Kathryn (Beninga) Eckhoff, on September 26, 1917. The family later moved to Wellsburg to make their home. He received his schooling in the Wellsburg Public School.

On December 13, 1939, he was united in marriage to Gladys Geerdes at the home of her parents in Wellsburg. Following their marriage they lived on a farm west of Wellsburg and then in 1950 moved to Wellsburg. He was engaged in the milking equipment business for 20 years.

Herman was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on June 23, 1938. He was a devoted member of his church and faithfully served His Lord in whatever task he was called to do.

His parents preceded him in death.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Gladys; three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Ella Ruter of Kanawha; Miss Tillie Eckhoff of Britt; Mrs. Leonard (Minnie) Clarke of Whitten; George J. Eckhoff of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
