Services Held Monday For Jan Eertmoed

Jan A. Eertmoed, age 78, of rural Steamboat Rock, passed away at the Eldora Hospital on Thursday evening, October 8, from an extended illness. He had been a resident of the Eldora Care Center for the past 18 months, prior to his hospital stay.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg, at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 12. Rev. Thomas J. Vos was the officiating clergyman.

Alfred Eiten, soloist, sang two songs, "Abide With Me" and "God's Family." He was accompanied by Mrs. Emma Bakker, who also played the prelude and postlude music on the organ.

Casket bearers were Edward Geerdes, Gratus Geerdes, Lawrence Lutterman, Alvin Lutterman, William Riekena and Tony Doolard.

Mrs. Ginny Jaspers and Mrs. Ruth Bleeker were in charge of the floral arrangements. Serving as ushers were Chris Christians and Edward Nederhoff.

Burial was in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Wellsburg.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Eertmoed was born on January 20, 1909, on a family farm, rural Steamboat Rock, where he lived his entire life, the son of Alle E. and Gepka Riekena Eertmoed.

He received his education at the Clay No. 1 School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He never married and he farmed with his family until retirement in 1978.

He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of rural Wellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ben, who passed away in 1966.

He is survived by a brother, Albert "Al" Eertmoed, and a sister, Grace A. Eertmoed, both at home on the family farm, rural Steamboat Rock.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
