Jennie E. Christians, 84, of Wellsburg, died Wednesday, March 28 at the Ackley Presbyterian Village.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 31, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg. Pastor Tom Vos officiated. Burial followed at the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
Jennie was born on January 2, 1917 in rural Hardin County the daughter of Martin and Anna (Miller) Geiken. She attended rural Grundy County country school.
On January 25, 1938 Jennie was united in marriage to Chris E. Christians at the East Friesland Parsonage in rural Ackley. Together, Jennie and Chris farmed the same farm that Chris grew up at as a child for 43 years. They moved to Wellsburg in November 1979 and retired from farming in 1981.
Jennie was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, a member of the Queen Esther's Circle and was also a member of Timothy Sister's Group. Jennie was very supportive of the Timothy Christian School. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting. Jennie and Chris enjoyed 63 years of married life together.
Jennie is survived by her husband, Chris of the Ackley Presbyterian Village; a son, Edward (Bonnie) Christians of Wellsburg; a son, Merle (Sandy) Christians of Peoria, IL; a daughter, Joan (Floyd) Mooney of Gifford; a son, Calvin (Sharee) Christians of Dubuque; a brother, Elwood (Tillie) Geiken of Cleves; two sisters, Katie Giesking of Ackley and Marion Funnell of Grundy Center; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jacob Geiken; and a sister, Hilda Eckhoff.
Doyen-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
