Gladys Riekena Services Held

Funeral services for Gladys P. Riekena were held at the First Christian Reformed Church, Wellsburg, IA, on Tuesday, January 16, 1990, at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Thomas J. Vos officiated.

Mr. Alfred Eiten sang "God Understand" and "No One Understands Like Jesus." He was accompanied by Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Donald Heikens, Harvey Eiten, Ronald deNeui, Richard Geiken, Lary Riebkes and Richard Schafer.

Al Blythe and Lee Bakker were ushers. Mrs. Ronald deNeui and Mrs. Donald Heikens were in charge of floral arrangements.

Interment was in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery, Wellsburg, IA.

Gladys Riekena was born on December 29, 1904, in Shiloh Township, Grundy County, IA. She passed away at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 1990, at the Eldora Manor of natural causes. She attained the age of 85 years and 15 days.

She was the daughter of Peter B. and Grietje (Ross) Riekena. Gladys attended school in Shiloh Township and Ellsworth Sewing School. Gladys was an excellent seamstress and made most of her own clothes. She lived her entire life in Shiloh Township except for the last 12 weeks, when she was a patient in the Eldora Manor Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Ben P. Riekena and one sister, Grace P. Riekena.

Gladys is survived by one brother, William P. Riekena of rural Wellsburg.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
