Grace Riekena, 77, Dies At Local Hospital
Funeral services for Grace P. Riekena were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 24 at the First Christian Reformed Church west of Wellsburg. Pastor John Gorter officiated the service.
Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. She also accompanied the soloist, Alfred Eiten, who sang two selections.
Casket bearers were Ronald deNeui, Richard Schafer, Lary Riebkes, Richard Geiken, Donald Heikens, and Dr. Ben Gavin. The interment service was held in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.
The Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Miss Riekena passed away early Wednesday morning, August 2, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to complications following surgery which she underwent on Tuesday morning. She entered the hospital on Saturday, August 18th.
She was born June 19, 1907, on a farm in Shiloh Township, southwest of Wellsburg, the daughter of Peter B. and Grietje (Ross) Riekena and attended the rural school in the area. In 1921 the family moved to a farm northwest of Wellsburg. Following the death of her parents she continued to make her home on the farm with her sister, Gladys, and brother, William.
She attended the First Christian Reformed Church at Wellsburg.
Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Ben P. Riekena.
Surviving are a sister, Gladys P. Riekena of Wellsburg; a brother, William P. Riekena of Wellsburg; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Alena Riekena of Grundy Center and many other relatives and friends.
