Funeral Rites For George L. Bakker, 74
Funeral services for George L. Bakker were held on Wednesday, January 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church at Wellsburg. Pastor John Gorter officiated at the services.
The Messengers quartet, Richard Schafer, Lary Riebkes, Melvin Haupt, and Arnold Eiten sang two selections, accompanied by Mrs. LuRay Meyer. Organist was Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff. Mrs. Harold Eiten and Mrs. Benjamin Primus took care of the flowers.
Pall bearers were Evert Heikens, Meint Bakker, Edward Miller, John H. Bakker, Herman Bakker, and Gratus Mudderman.
The interment service was held in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.
Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
George L. Bakker passed away Sunday evening, January 23 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, due to complications of a stroke. He had been in the hospital for treatment since January 5. He attained the age of 74 years, 7 months and 24 days.
George was born on a farm in Hardin county, near Steamboat Rock on May 29, 1908, the son of Louis and Grave (Ross) Bakker, and received his education in the rural schools in the area. On August 26, 1946 he was married to Isabelle Sheller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in the Ivester area, later moving to Eldora for two years. In 1960 they moved to their present acreage south of Steamboat Rock.
He was baptized and became a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg.
Preceding him in death were: his parents, a sister, Luella, and a brother, Menno.
Those left to mourn his passing are: Isabelle of rural Eldora; two brothers, Evert and William Bakker, both of rural Grundy Center; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Menno (Lenora) Bakker, Grundy Center; a nephew, LuVerne Bakker of Grundy Center and many other relatives and friends.
