Evert L. Bakker passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 30 at his farm home west of Grundy Center due to an apparent heart attack. He reached the age of 74 years, two months and 27 days.

Funeral services for Evert L. Bakker were held on Saturday, December 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Pastor John Gorter officiated.

Two selections were sung by The Messengers, Richard Schafer, Lary Riebkes, Melvin Haupt, and Arnold Eiten accompanied by Mrs. LuRay Meyer. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Mrs. Fred Luppen and Mrs. Chris Christians were flower attendants.

Pall bearers were Evert Heikens, Meint Bakker, Edward Miller, John H. Bakker, Herman Bakker, and Gratus Mudderman.

The interment service was held in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.

Evert was born on a farm in Hardin county, near Steamboat Rock, on September 3, 1909, the son of Louis and Grace (Ross) Bakker and received his education in the rural schools in the area. In 1940 the family moved to their present farm west of Grundy Center. His father passed away November 13, 1950, and his mother passed away on July 4, 1947. He and his brother William continued to make their home on the farm.

He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made profession of faith on May 1, 1955.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Luella Bakker; and two brothers, Menno Bakker and George Bakker.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his brother, William L. Bakker of rural Grundy Center; two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Menno (Lenora) Bakker of rural Holland and Mrs. George (Isabelle) Bakker of rural Eldora; a niece and nephew, LuVerne and Charlotte Bakker of Grundy Center; three grand-nieces and one grand-nephew, Dean and Sandra Bakker, Nancy Bakker and Kathy Bakker, all of Grundy Center; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
