Services For Walter Zech At Ft. Dodge

Funeral services for Walter H. Zech, a former resident of Wellsburg, were held Monday, Sept. 24, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge, with burial at the Shiloh Township Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Mr. Zech passed away at his home in Lohrville on September 20, having lived to the age of 77 years and 29 days.

Walter was born August 21, 1913, the son of Charles and Anna Miller Zech of Wellsburg.

He was graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1932, and for a time worked as a carpenter with his father and brother, and later started his own construction business.

He married Audrey Filer at the Methodist Church parsonage in Waverly on November 18, 1934. To this union was born four children.

In 1945 the couple moved to Aplington where he engaged in the construction business and also was active in community affairs. They then moved to Fort Dodge in 1965 where he worked for a construction company until he semi-retired in 1975.

For two years he taught carpentry at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.

Walter and Audrey spent their winters in Texas where he enjoyed fishing. They moved to their present home in Lohrville in 1988. He had been in failing health for the past year.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge.

Survivors include his widow; a son, James, of Rockwell City; two daughters, Marilyn Wilson and Susan Janssen, both of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Ronald in infancy, a grandson, and a brother, Julius.
