Rites Held For John Wubbens

John Wubbens, 88, a former resident of Wellsburg, passed away on Thursday, May 4, at the Ackley Presbyterian Home in Ackley, where he had been a resident for the past three years.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Rev. Charles H. Kooger of the Second Christian Reformed Church, officiated.

Mrs. Ivan Slifer and Mrs. Harold Okones sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." They were accompanied by Mrs. LuRay Neessen, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were A. T. Kruse, Verle Bohlen, Steven Hook, Elwin Harms, Ronald Jungling, and Elmer Fritzel.

Interment was in the Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg.

John J. Wubbens was born November 20, 1900, in Grundy county, the son of George and Hattie Hayenga Wubbens. He attended rural school in the Wellsburg area and worked as a farm hand in his younger days. He also worked for Ross Construction Company, and he managed a gas station for many years.

John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Fred and Clarence.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Tena Weber, of Ackley, and Mrs. Carrie Boekhoff, of Wellsburg; and by four nieces.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
