Pearl Ross, 90, of Wellsburg passed away on Monday, June 26, 2000, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of heart failure.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Christ Covenant Church with burial in the Shiloh Cemetery, both in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.

Pearl was born on December 17, 1909, the daughter of Henry and Tena (Schulte) Johnson. She was born in rural Grundy County and later moved with her family to Butler County. On March 8, 1930, she was united in marriage to Martin Ross in Wellsburg. They farmed in the Wellsburg area until they retired and moved to Wellsburg.

Pearl was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church, now Christ Covenant Church. She taught Sunday School for many years, was a member of the Helping Hand Society, the Willing Workers and Shiloh Homemakers. She also served as a 4-H leader as well as on the County 4-H committee.

Survivors include her husband, Martin Ross of the Presbyterian Village in Ackley; two children, LuVerne "Skip" Ross of the Veteran's Home in Marshalltown (formerly of Grundy Center) and Marlys Haats of Clive; four grandchildren, Thomas Haats, Karla Haats, Tonya Dixon and Todd Ross; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jennie Eilderts of Aplington, Henrietta Shipp of Waterloo and Marjorie Collins of Waterloo; and one sister-in-law, Tillie (Mrs. Fred) Johnson of the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fred and Harry Johnson; one sister, Dorothy Neessen; and one grandson, Terry Ross.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
