Norman H. Harms, 85, of Wellsburg, died September 19 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral services were September 22 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiating. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.
Norman was born September 28, 1915, the son of Ibeling and Minnie (Wiegman) Harms in Wellsburg. On February 14, 1939, Norman was united in marriage to Eleanor Vahlsing at the Lutheran Church in Holland. Norman farmed in rural Wellsburg until his retirement and continued to live on his farm until his death.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg where he had served on several church boards. He was a member of the Grundy County Landfill Commission. Norman was presently serving on the Grundy County Zoning Board, and had served with the board for several years. He was also presently the Pleasant Valley Township Trustee, which he has done for several years.
Survivors include his wife Eleanor Harms of Wellsburg; daughter, Catherine Riekena and her husband Lowell of Wellsburg; son, Leon Harms and his wife Sharon of Wellsburg; one brother, Alvin Harms and his wife Theresa of Wellsburg; one sister, Vera DeNeui of Wellsburg; five grandchildren, Miekka (Riekena) Stover and her husband Jeff of Schaumburg, IL, Sarah (Riekena) Eilderts and her husband Derek of Minneapolis, MN, Monica (Harms) Laube and her husband Phil of Holland, Alan Harms of Guayama, Puerto Rico and Laura Harms of Iowa City; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Martha Ascher and Lizzie DeNeui.
