Harris Harrenstein, 82, of Wellsburg, died February 23, of complications following surgery at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Kevin Ver Hoeven officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by the Wellsburg American Legion Post #213 and Amvets Post 91. A memorial fund has been established.

Pallbearers were Darwin Arends, Gaylen Geiken, Dave Harrenstein, Victor Sanderson, T. J. Kruse and Gary Harrenstein.

Harris was born on August 25, 1915, in Grundy County the son of Herman and Alice (Terfehn) Harrenstein. He attended country school through the 8th grade. He served in the Army in WWII from 1942-1945 in Italy. On April 3, 1959, he was united in marriage to Bernice Arends in the Christian Reformed Church in Iowa Falls. They made their home in Wellsburg.

Harris drove truck, and school bus for the Wellsburg School. He worked as a printer for the Grundy Register and at the Ackley Publishing Company until January 1997.

Harris is survived by his wife, Bernice of Wellsburg; 2 daughters, Valerie Wiederkehr and husband Robert of Belvidere, Illinois and Brenda Anderson and husband Daryl of Wellsburg; 4 grandchildren, Joshua Wiederkehr, Gene, Trisha and Cassandra Anderson; 3 sisters, Mabel Claassen of Wellsburg, Marge Teasdale and husband Tom of Grundy Center, and LaVonne Kruse and husband Tom of Iowa Falls; 2 brothers, Alvin Harrenstein and wife Deloris of Eagle Grove and Dennis Harrenstein of Ackley; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son, Kent Allan Harrenstein; and 1 sister, Esther Muller.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
