Stella Geerdes, 68, of Steamboat Rock, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at her home in Steamboat Rock of lung cancer.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock. Burial followed in the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. Pastor Bruce Baillie officiated the service. A memorial fund has been established.

Pallbearers were Brett Stupp, Chad Harms, Harold Jaspers, Corey Stupp, John Geerdes and George Hemmen.

Stella was born on March 8, 1931, in Grundy County the daughter of James and Gertrude (Meyer) deNeui. She graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1948. On November 27, 1951, she was united in marriage to Gordon Geerdes in Wellsburg. To this union was born five children, Jim, Gail, Jean, Cindy and Joey.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and she sang in the church choir. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Survivors include her son Jim Geerdes and wife Vicki of Torrington, WY and children, Alandy and John Geerdes; daughters, Gail Nance and husband Brian of Monroe, NC, and son Chad Harms and his daughter, Cadi; Jean Stupp and Tim Thompson of Marshalltown and children Brett and Corey Stupp; Cindy Butters and husband John of Nederland, TX and children Jessica and Allison Butters; and Joey Loken and husband Steve of Garfield, MN; and one brother, Keith deNeui and wife Donna of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon in 1986; her parents; and one brother, Milton deNeui.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
