Esther Marie Geerdes, 83, of Edinburg, TX, formerly of Wellsburg, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN of natural causes.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 8 at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Ver Hoeven officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.

Esther was born on May 2, 1917, in rural Holland the daughter of August and Elizabeth (Knock) Fritzel. She was united in marriage to Harold Geerdes on June 11, 1938, at her parents' home.

Esther enjoyed playing basketball during high school and played on the state girl's championship team in Wellsburg. She lived in Wellsburg much of her adult life and she was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church. She enjoyed the outdoors.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Geerdes of Edinburg, TX; one daughter, Kay Schmidt (Larry) of Plano, TX; two grandchildren, Robert Schmidt of Frisco, TX and Lauren Dyck of Austin, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Dylan Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Elmer Fritzel.
