Wellsburg Man Takes Own Life

A Wellsburg man, Dennis R. Gronewold, 44, allegedly took his own life Sunday morning at his home.

Death was by hanging, according to the Grundy County sheriff's office and medical examiner Dr. W. H. Verduyn.

His services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church at rural Holland; burial in Shiloh Cemetery at Wellsburg; survived by his wife, Ellen; his mother, Mrs. Reka Gronewold of Wellsburg; and a sister, Mrs. Richard Ross of Wellsburg. Doyen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Gronewold.

Funeral Services Wednesday For Dennis Gronewold

Funeral services for Dennis Gronewold were held Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church near Holland. Rev. Carl G. Regnerus was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Elmer Muller and Mrs. John Luchtenburg Jr. sang two duet numbers. Mrs. Clarence H. Walterman was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Alfred Meester and Mrs. Jake B. Engelkes. Pall bearers were Vincel Meints, Don Krull, Roger Krull, Dean Daleske, Duane Wikert and Larry Wright. Interment was made in the Shiloh cemetery at Wellsburg. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Ray Gronewold passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 23, at his farm home northeast of Wellsburg. He reached the age of 44 years, 11 months and 23 days.

He was born on a farm in Colfax township, northeast of Wellsburg, on Dec. 30, 1928, the son of Henry and Reka (Meyer) Gronewold. He attended the rural school in the area. He graduated from the Wellsburg high school in 1947. On March 20, 1953, he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Daleske at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eldora. Following their marriage they made their home on the Gronewold home place farm where he was born.

Dennis was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church of rural Holland.

He was preceded in death by his father who passed away on March 24, 1953.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Ellen; his mother, Mrs. Reka Gronewold of Wellsburg; his sister (Ardis), Mrs. Richard Ross of Wellsburg; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Daleske, who made her home with Dennis and Ellen; one niece (Jani), Mrs. Melvin VanDeest of Grundy Center; one nephew, Douglas Ross of Wellsburg; and many other relatives and friends.
