Ernest DeNeui, 88, of Wellsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.

Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Wellsburg. Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiated. Burial followed in the Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.

Ernest was born on May 9, 1912, in rural Wellsburg, the son of Johannes and Catherine (Jaspers) DeNeui. Ernest attended rural Wellsburg Country School. On March 14, 1934, Ernest was united in marriage to Vera Harms at the Pastor's parsonage at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg. Vera is surviving.

Ernest was engaged in farming for over 47 years in rural Wellsburg. Ernest was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Wellsburg, where he served for many years as the financial secretary. He had also served on the Wellsburg Community School Board.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Vera of Wellsburg; two daughters, Eileen (Robert) Murra of Wellsburg and Velma (Roger) Hippen of Wellsburg; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ernest is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Floy Bergmann and Fannie Kannegieter; five brothers, Abe DeNeui, Jay DeNeui, John DeNeui, Roy DeNeui and Herman DeNeui.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
