Mrs. Meta N. Boomgarden Is Buried Here

Mrs. Meta N. Boomgarden passed away Friday afternoon, November 19, 1982, at the Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls due to complications of a stroke suffered on Monday the 15th. She was taken to the hospital on Tuesday the 16th for treatment. She reached the age of 86 years, 8 months and 24 days.

She was born on February 25, 1896, in Renville, MN, the daughter of Rieke and Justina (Tellinghuisen) Smidt. As a child, she moved with her parents to White, SD, and she received her education in the rural school there. On November 3, 1921, she was married to Heye J. Boomgarden at White, SD. Following their marriage they made their home in Wellsburg. Her husband passed away on February 26, 1971. She continued to make her home in Wellsburg util 1978, at which time she moved to Cedar Falls to make her home with her brother, Wierd Smidt.

Mrs. Boomgarden was a long-time member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having joined by transfer of membership on July 16, 1935.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and three brothers.

Survivors include two brothers, Wierd Smidt of Cedar Falls; Dick Smidt of Brookings, SD; five sisters, Mrs. Etta Boomgarden of Steamboat Rock; Mrs. Johanna Ullrich of Le Center, MN; Mrs. Georgia Schutjer of Brookings, SD; Mrs. Minnie Enevoldson of White, SD; Mrs. Jeane Woodard of White, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Meta N. Boomgarden were held on Monday afternoon, November 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Rev. John H. Elenbaas officiated.

Mrs. LuRay Neessen provided a prelude and postlude and also accompanied Mrs. Ivan Slifer and Mrs. Harold Okones as they sang one selection, and the congregation as they sang a hymn.

Pallbearers were Ralph Boomgarden, Lee Boomgarden, Heine Boomgarden, Fritz Albers, Albert Huisman, and Vernon Stahl.

The interment service was held in Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Arrangements were in charge of Doyen Funeral Home.
