Etta J. Boomgarden, 99, formerly of Steamboat Rock, died November 9 at Afton Care Center in Afton. Funeral services were November 13 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Etta was born June 19, 1903 in White, SD, the daughter of Rieke and Justine (Tellinghuisen) Smidt. At the age of 20, Etta moved to Wellsburg to live with her sister, Meta Boomgarden. On November 10, 1926, Etta was united in marriage to Jake Boomgarden. They lived in Wellsburg for a number of years. They moved to Eldora and lived there for a number of years and then moved to Steamboat Rock and lived there for over forty years.

She is survived by four sons, Lloyd and his wife Rowena of Denver, CO, Heinie and his wife Judy of Creston, Ralph and his wife Maxine of Eldora, and Lee and his wife Imogene of Wellsburg; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and may nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one grandson; three sisters; and four brothers.
