Tom Heronimus Services Held

Tom Heronimus, age 77, of Holland died at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, October 18 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 21 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, with the Rev. Jerry Van Curler and Dr. F. J. Langenberg officiating.

Mrs. Wayne Halstead sang "The Stranger of Galilee" and "Calvary." The congregation sang "Oh God Our Help In Ages Past." Mrs. Raymond Hinders served as accompanist and also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Dale Weichers, Elmer Muller, Raymond Hinders, Steward J. Heikens, Robert Brower and Bernard Brower.

Ushers were Harry Ascher, Herman Akkerman and John Seehusen. Art Henze provided his car for the family.

Mrs. C. W. Kruse, Mrs. Edwin Brower and Mrs. Art Henze were in charge of the floral tributes.

Burial was held in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Holland. Relatives and friends were invited back to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Tom was born April 10, 1903 in Colfax Township, Grundy County, the son of Heye and Alice Franken Heronimus. He attained the age 77 years, 6 months and 8 days. He grew up in the Holland area. On March 6, 1929 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, he was united in marriage to Helen Maas. He was employed by Grundy county for 30 years after which he worked for Western Dressing, Inc. in Grundy Center until his retirement in 1968. Tom was a long time member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. He was a long time member of the Holland Independent School District; served for several terms on the Holland Town Council; and was a member and past president of the Holland Community Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Harold D. in 1969; and one infant brother.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, T.J. Heronimus of Grundy Center; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; 9 sisters, Mrs. Hazel Abels and Mrs. Tena Schoon, both of Holland; Mrs. R. R. Hansen, Mrs. Ella Paterni, Lillian Heronimus, Mrs. Henry (Elma) Siefken and DeLoris Bakker, all of Grundy Center; Mrs. Alfred (Mae) Brower of Ackley and Mrs. John (Iva Dean) Itzen of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Paul of El Paso, Texas and George of Holland.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
