Rites Held For Mrs. Heronimus

Mrs. Gertie Heronimus passed away at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, February 12, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. She was formerly of Holland.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center. Rev. Glenn R. Dieken officiated the service.

Merle Mamminga sang "Safe In The Arms of Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art." He was accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Hinders, who also played selected numbers for the prelude.

Casket bearers were Dan Heronimus, George Heronimus, T. J. Heronimus, Lloyd Dreesman, Julius Heikens, and Dale Weichers.

Burial was in the Colfax Center Cemetery, rural Holland.

Mrs. Heronimus was born on January 10, at Holland, the daughter of Tamme and Gretje Theerman Dreesman. She attained the age of 91 years, one month and two days.

On September 27, 1910, she was united in marriage to Ben P. Heronimus at Holland, by the Rev. Drake. They farmed in Colfax township until 1924, when they moved and made their home in Holland, where they ran a hardware store until 1948, when they retired. Her husband passed away on May 14, 1972. She continued to make her home in Holland until November 18, 1977, when she became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit.

She was a long time member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, two sisters, two half brothers, and four half sisters.

She is survived by one son, Benjamin of Grundy Center and his wife, Grace; two grandsons and their wives, Darrell and Dee and Gary and Nancy; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
