John Heerts, 76, Died Sunday

John W. Heerts, 76, died at the home of his sister at 803 3rd Street, Grundy Center, early Sunday morning, July 17.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, at 1:30 in the Colfax Center Presbyterian church with Rev. Wiert Eekhoff officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hinders played piano and organ interludes "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." Milf Meyer and Melvin Flater were ushers. Mrs. Margaret Meyer and Mrs. William Meyer were floral attendants. Pallbearers were Ivan Slifer, Merle Meyer, Wilbur Knock, Kenneth Heerts, Wayne Eilers and Elmer Ruter. Burial was in the Colfax Presbyterian cemetery, rural Holland.

Mr. Heerts was born November 4, 1900 in Colfax township, Grundy County, Iowa, the son of William and Grace Hook Heerts. He grew to manhood in the Wellsburg-Holland area. On January 5, 1927 he was united in marriage to Gertie Kruse at the Colfax Center parsonage. They lived in Grundy Center five years then moved to a farm in Colfax township. In the fall of 1963 the couple moved to Holland.

His wife, Gertie preceded him in death on December 17, 1971. He continued to live in Holland until November 1973 when he moved to Grundy Center to make his home with his sister, Mrs. Frances Fletcher. He was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian church.

Survivors include one son, Dale of Grundy Center, two grandchildren, three brothers, Ralph, Ed and Andrew, and one sister, Mrs. Fletcher all of Grundy Center.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements
