Family Mourns Passing Of John Freese

John Freese passed away early Saturday morning, May 3, 1980, at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center following a lingering illness. He had been transferred there the previous day from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He reached the age of 81 years, 6 months and 7 days.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Jerry VanCurler officiated.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of services.

He was born on a farm near Ackley on October 26, 1898, the son of Ralph and Trientje (Riebkes) Freese and attended the rural school in the area. On February 25, 1920, he was married to Mary Muller. Four sons were born to this union. She passed away May 2, 1928. On December 9, 1930, he was married to Grace Weichers. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union. They lived on a farm near Fern, later moving to a farm in Colfax township, rural Holland. In 1965 they moved from the farm to Wellsburg to make their home.

John became a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in 1947.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one son Kenneth, 6 sisters, 2 brothers and 1 granddaughter.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife Grace, 5 sons and one daughter, Harley Freese of Wellsburg, Clarence Freese of Wellsburg, Wendo Freese of Cedar Falls, Melvin Freese of Shakopee, Minn., Arnold Freese of Wellsburg, Mrs. Vaneda Huisman of Wellsburg; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Louie Freese of Greene, and many other relatives and friends.
