Rites Held For Henrietta Franken

Henrietta Abels Franken, 98, of Grundy Center, died Wednesday, September 16, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Henrietta was born December 11, 1893, the daughter of Barney and Annie Kruse Abels. She was the oldest of nine children and in her younger years was always caring for her younger sisters and brothers. She attended country school number 8 in Holland.

On December 29, 1920, she was united in marriage to Albert Franken. From that union two daughters were born, Helen and Lois.

She was a devoted charter member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church and was a charter member of the Ladies Missionary Society. She enjoyed life and always liked to have her family home to see her as well as her neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert on August 11, 1944; 5 brothers, Fred, Conrad, Harm, Henry, and John; 3 sisters, Margaret Abels, Esther Theilbert, and Bernice VerDoorn.

She is survived by her daughters, Helen Heerts of Holland, and Lois Saylor of Grundy Center; 6 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
