Mark Ralston Rites Held Monday
Services for Mark E. Ralston, 93, who died late Saturday morning, Sept. 25, at Oakview Nursing Home were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Alice Church of God with the Rev. H. L. Heim officiating. Burial was in the Alice cemetery. Johnston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mark E. Ralston was born in Grundy County Feb. 16, 1878, a son of James M. and Rebecca Kennedy Ralston, the last member of a family of 13 children. He was educated at a rural school in Felix Township, near the old family homestead. On December 6, 1905, he married Victoria Bowers at Laurel, Iowa. They lived on farms in the Conrad and Alice vicinity until March of 1939, when they purchased a home and moved to Conrad.
As a young man he was baptized at the Alice Church of God and with his wife was a faithful member through the years while raising a family of 9 children.
Surviving are 8 children: Mrs. Ira (Lorene) Gross, Des Moines; Wayne B., Grundy Center; Leslie J., Conrad; Mrs. Harry (Thelma) Price, Cedar Falls; Gerald C., San Diego, Calif.; DeVee Weatherman, Lake Ozark, Mo.; Robert E., Marshalltown; Mrs. Roger (Betty) Newton, Waterloo; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, C. W. (Bill) Ralston, his parents, step-mother and brothers and sisters.
