Services Held Tuesday For Wilna Hays

Mrs. Wilna T. Hays of Austin, MN and formerly of Grundy Center passed away at 10:14 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, at the Burr Oak Nursing Home in Austin, MN.

Funeral services were held at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center, on Tuesday, December 8, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiated.

Mrs. Wayne Halstead sang "Children Of The Heavenly Father" and "All Creatures Of Our God And King." She was accompanied by Mrs. T. J. Heronimus, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were David Hays, Steven Hays, Hollis Miller, Steven Thomassen, Ray Launstein and Marvin Barfels.

The ushers were Edward Flater and Leonard Ralston. Mrs. Vernon Klosterboer was in charge of the floral arrangements.

The committal services were held immediately following the funeral service. Relatives and friends were invited to remain at the church following the services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Interment was in the Alice Cemetery, rural Conrad.

Mrs. Hays was born on July 13, 1909, in rural Grundy county, the daughter of John Silas Price and Mable Grace Shirk Price. She grew up in the Grundy Center area and graduated from the Grundy Center High School in 1928. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College for two years. She then worked as a governess and cared for family members during prolonged illness.

On February 5, 1938, she was united in marriage to Paul A. Hays at Baltimore, MD. After their marriage, they made their home in suburban Philadelphia, PA, where Mr. Hays was a machinist. After her husband's retirement, they moved and made their home in Grundy Center in 1977.

Her husband Paul passed away on June 25, 1986.

In October of 1986, she moved to Austin, MN, so she could be near to her son and family.

She was associated with the Bethany Presbyterian Church of Grundy Center. Wilna spent most of her life helping and caring for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Viola and one brother, Edward.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Barbara Hays of Austin, MN; two grandsons, David and Steven Hays; two brothers, Harry Price of Cedar Falls and LeRoy Price of Grundy Center; one sister, Mrs. Alvin (Lucille) Launstein of rural Holland.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
