Paul Hays of Grundy Center passed away at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.
Funeral services were held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, on Monday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf of the Bethany Presbyterian Church of Grundy Center officiated.
Merle Mamminga sang "Abide With Me" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord." The accompanist was Mrs. Raymond Appel, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were Harvey Mackie, Ray Launstein, Dale Launstein, David Hays, Steven Hays, and Steve Thomassen.
Mrs. Bernard Eilderts and Mrs. Vernon Klosterboer were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Alice Church Cemetery, rural Conrad.
Mr. Hays was born on December 30, 1903, at Peters township, Franklin County, PA, the son of Milton and Annie Sentry Zimmerman Hays. He attained the age of 82 years, five months, and 25 days.
He grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania. He then lived for several years in Chambersburg and Philadelphia, PA, and later in Charles City, IA.
On February 5, 1938, at Baltimore, MD, he was united in marriage to Wilna Price. After their marriage they lived in Upper Darby, PA, and in various other areas, until they moved and made their home in Grundy Center on August 1, 1977.
He became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit on June 17, 1986.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by eight brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Wilna of Grundy Center; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Barbara Hays of Austin, MN; and by two grandsons, David and Steven Hays.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
