Thomas Boyle, Longtime Local Resident, Dead
Thomas P. Boyle, 99, died Thursday night, November 21, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center with Rev. Theodore W. Ertle officiating. Mrs. Janet Eberline was organist and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Strickler sang a duet.
Casket bearers were Harvey Mackie, Lawrence Watkins, Vail Hess, Homer Long, Everett Wilson and Ronald Schildroth. Flower bearers were Mrs. Harold Wilson and Mrs. Harvey Mackie. Burial was in the Alice Cemetery, rural Conrad.
He was born July 27, 1886, in Oakdale, IL, the son of William J. and Margaret Parks Boyle. He received his education in a country school in Oakdale, IL, and also took a course at the Columbia University, Columbia, MO.
He served in the U.S. Army in WWI from 1918 to 1919.
On November 30, 1922, he married Vivian Gohner, at her parent's home near Conrad. They resided in the Conrad area since their marriage, having moved into town 33 years ago.
Mr. Boyle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center, and the Grundy County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian; daughter-in-law, Norma Boyle; two grandchildren, Gary and Deborah Boyle; and a great-granddaughter, all of Conrad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Duane; one sister, three brothers; and a granddaughter, Barbara.
The Johnston Funeral Home of Conrad was in charge of the arrangements.
