Clark H. Brindle, 99, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Oakview Nursing Home, Conrad, where he had resided.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the Alice Church of God, rural Conrad. Rev. James Snare officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jerry Brindle, David Brindle, Mark Patterson, Dale Patterson, Stephen Vint, Alan Vint, Daniel Stromberg and Wayne Bracy.

A memorial fund is being established.

Clark was born April 24, 1900, in Liberty Township, near Bangor the son of John P. and Effie C. Hadley Brindle. He received his education in country schools in Grundy and Hardin counties. He also attended a business course at Marshalltown Business College and a two year agricultural course at Iowa State College, Ames.

He married Gladys W. Stover on March 16, 1923, at her parents home in rural Conrad. They were married 76 years. He was a retired farmer having farmed for 44 years in the Grundy County area.

Clark was a member of the Alice Church of God, rural Conrad, the Marshalltown Elks Lodge, Conrad Lions Club, Grundy County Farm Bureau, former 50+ member of Roman Masonic Lodge #564, A.F. & A.M., Conrad, served for 30 years as director of First State Bank, Conrad.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad; two sons, Wallace E. (Marlyne) Brindle and Marvin C. (Dorothy) Brindle, both of Conrad; three daughters, Marjorie F. (Darwin) Vint, Beaman, Frances K. (Frank) Patterson, Gilman and Eleanor M. (Richard) Stromberg of Cincinnati, OH; one sister, Mary L. Walter of Marshalltown; one brother, Luther M. Brindle of Marshalltown; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joy Eggleston; and two great-granddaughters.

Johnston Funeral Home, Conrad, was in charge of the arrangements.
