Hindericus Deters was born at Bunde, East Friesland; Aug 26, 1852, and died April 21, 1912 at his home in German township. February 15, 1878 he was united in marriage to Miss Gertje Zimmerman of Weener, East Friesland. In 1884 the Deters family removed from East Friesland to Grundy county and have lived there ever since. Eight children were born to this union one of who has preceded the father in death. He is survived by his wife and seven children, two sons, married, five daughters, three married and two at home. Also two brothers, Tom Deters living in German township and one living in East Friesland and one sister, Mrs. John Hickman of German township. Mr. Deters' death was due to cancer, of which he had been troubled for over a year.

He was a faithful member of the West Friesland Presbyterian church and served this church as trustee from 1905 to 1912.

Being of a kind and loving disposition he made friends where ever he went.

Funeral services were held April 21 at the West Friesland church in German township. Rev. J. J. Agena officiated. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church.
