Services For Jack Deters Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Jack Deters were held on Tuesday, January 20, 1987 at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Pastor Orwin Duistermars was officiating clergyman.

Two selections were sung by Herman J. Koch and Mrs. Ivan Slifer. Mrs. LuRay Neessen was organist and accompanist.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Harris Harrenstein and Mrs. Raymond Junker.

Casket bearers were Rick Riebkes, Russ Buseman, Gary Nymeyer, Jon Nymeyer, Ronald Kruse, and David Leiser.

The interment service was held in the West Friesland Presbyterian Church cemetery at Ackley, IA. Graveside military rites were conducted by the Wellsburg Amvets Post 91 and the Wellsburg Ashing-Jaspers American Legion Post 213.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jack Deters passed away around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, January 17, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown following a lengthy illness. He had been taken to the hospital on Wednesday the 14th for treatment. He reached the age of 62 years, 6 months and 25 days.

He was born Jackson Louis Lieser, on June 22, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leo and Harmke (Geiken) Lieser. His mother passed away when Jack was 3 years old. He was later adopted by Henry and Katie (Geiken) Deters from the Ackley vicinity and received his education in the rural schools in the area.

On September 1, 1948 he was married to Anna Mae Riebkes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following their marriage they lived in Iowa Falls for a short time, also in Parkersburg for a short time and then moved to Grundy Center. Later they moved to Wellsburg where he operated the Deters Auto Service for 14 years, before being forced to retire because of ill health.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center and for the past several years has attended the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg.

Jack served in the US Army Air Force for 3 1/2 years during World War II receiving his discharge on February 18, 1946.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, his adoptive parents and one sister.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Anna Mae; three daughters, Mrs. Mike (Joyce) Hess of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Randy (Jean) Fraker of Montezuma, Mrs. Rick (Judy) Woods of Iowa Falls; one granddaughter, Brianne Hess; three sisters, Mrs. Leola Crouthamel of DesMoines Mrs. Albert H. (Anna) Kruse of Ackley; Mrs. Gertrude Fritz of Ackley; four brothers, Harris Lieser of Eldora; Herbert Lieser of Iowa Falls; Henry Deters of Ackley; Richard Deters of Alden and many other relatives and friends.
