Last Rites Held Friday For Alena Deters

Miss Alena Deters, daughter of Thomas and Rombertha Deters was born on May 8, 1877 on a farm in German township, Grundy County, Iowa. Thirty-seven years later, in the spring of 1914, with her father and sister Henrietta, she moved to the town of Wellsburg. It was at this time that her membership was transferred to the Second Christian Reformed Church of which she remained a member until her passing.

Her pastor knew Alena to be one who never tried to hide her faults. She always spoke freely of her sins. But she was quick to add that she also knew that Name in which alone there is salvation. Though she loved life, still she professed being ready to meet her Lord at any time He might choose to call her. Alena was confident that in her Father's house were mansions also prepared for her.

Miss Deters passed out of this life into the broad expanse of eternity at 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 1957 at the Eldora hospital where she had been confined since the beginning of October of last year. God gave her 79 years, 8 months and 15 days upon this earth.

Her passing is mourned by her sister, Henrietta, Mrs. H. C. Neessen of Wellsburg as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents: Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Deters; a brother, Hemmo Deters on September 6, 1936; a sister, Mrs. Henry Schafer on September 22, 1928; a sister, Antonnette at the age of 15 years and 3 sisters and 2 brothers in infancy.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, January 25, 1957 at 1:30 p.m. at the Heiko C. Neessen home and later at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Rev. John Olthoff of Oskaloosa and Rev. Bernard Visscher officiated at the services. Pall bearers were Herman Beninga, Adolph Deters, William Deters, Ben Riekena, Chas. Meints and Thomas Schafer.

Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed church cemetery.
