Bertha Claassen Siefken Services Held In Marion

Bertha Siefken, 85, a resident of Crestview Acres Nursing Home since 1987, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 1988, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.

She was born the daughter of John H. and Dedereka Graffe Claassen on February 2, 1903, at Holland, Iowa, where on September 18, 1923, she was married to Albert Siefken. The couple were former Marshalltown residents for 52 years before moving to Crestview Acres. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 9, 1988, at the Marion Christian Church, Marion. They were conducted by Rev. James Warren and Rev. Thomas J. Bower of the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Albert, are a son, Marvin Siefken of Marion; a grandson, Richard L. Siefken of Marion; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Geerdes of Wellsburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Deedireka Graffee Claassen; four sisters, Lean Fischer, Pearl Meyer, Ada Klunder and Charlotte Rust; four brothers, Dick, Joh, LeRoy and Fred.

Those who attended the funeral from here were Ruth Wagoner, Shirley Neesen, Mrs. Everett Temple, Clarence and Ruth Claassen of Grundy Center; Delbert and Ann Meyer from Holland and Anna and Jonas Geerdes of Steamboat Rock.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
