Marian Engelkes Services Held
Marian Engelkes, 72, of Wellsburg, passed away on Friday, June 12, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of natural causes.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pastor Kevin VerHoeven officiated.
Pallbearers were Bret Engelkes, David Engelkes, Derek Kruger, Chad Engelkes, Jared Kruger and Andy Slifer.
Honorary pallbearers were Kelly Engelkes, Cherish Engelkes, Lindsey Engelkes, Stefanie Kruger, Rachel Yackey, Megan Engelkes and Laura Yackey.
A memorial fund has been established.
Marian was born on March 3, 1926, in Colfax Township, Grundy County, the daughter of Henry J. and Florence (Maas) Smit. She graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1943. On December 12, 1946, she was united in marriage to Bernard A. Engelkes at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church and the Ladies Guild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; her parents; infant brother; and 2 brothers, Alvin and Donald.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Janice Yacky and husband Frank of Sussex, Wisconsin and Beth Slifer and husband Sidney of Wellsburg; 2 sons, Gene Engelkes and wife Melissa of Wellsburg and Darwin Engelkes and wife Melanie of Holland; 13 grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Smit of Sparks, Nevada and JoAnn Eberline of Grundy Center; and many friends and relatives, many who knew her as "Grandma E".
The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
