Gesiena Engelkes Died Sunday

Mrs. Henry B. (Gesiena) Engelkes, 75, died Sunday morning, October 21, 1979 at 8:25 in the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo from an apparent heart attack. She had been a hospital patient for one day.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Wellsburg Reformed Church at Wellsburg. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink and Rev. Glenn R. Dieken officiated. Mrs. W. D. Murray sang "When We See Christ." The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art". Miss Marcella Neessen was accompanist and also provided prelude and postlude selections.

Casketbearers were Paul Eberline, Mark Eberline, Eugene Engelkes, Darwin Engelkes, Frank Yackey and Sidney Slifer. Herman Stahl and George E. Anderson were ushers. Miss Alice Ruter and Mrs. Reka Groenewold were floral attendants. Following the committal service at the Reformed Church cemetery friends and relatives returned to the Church for fellowship and refreshments.

She was born March 19, 1904 in Beaver township, Grundy county, Iowa, the daughter of George and Johanna Bergman Rademaker. On December 12, 1923 she was united in marriage to Henry B. Engelkes at the home of her parents in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy county. After their marriage the Engelkes' farmed in Colfax township until 1947. At that time they moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Engelkes died December 15, 1978. She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, Women's Guild and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Mrs. Engelkes was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one infant brother. She is survived by one son, Bernard A. Engelkes, rural Holland, one daughter, Mrs. Virgil (JoAnn) Eberline, Grundy Center, one sister, Mrs. O. J. (Martha) Engelkes, Grundy Center, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. Arrangements were in charge of the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home.
