Wellsburg, Ia. -- Mr. and Mrs. Boekhoff Tuesday had been notified by the war department that their son, Pfc. Lawrence, 18, was drowned at sea last Dec. 25 in the sinking of an American transport carrying troops in the European theater of operations.

They had previously been notified that he was missing in action since Dec. 15.

Private Boekhoff was born Feb. 20, 1926, at St. Cloud, Minn., and was attending Wellsburg high school at the time he entered service May 12, 1944. He left for overseas service Nov. 14, 1944, and was last reported in England.

He is survived by his parents and 19 brothers and sisters. Three brothers are in service. These are: Cpl. John, fighting in Germany; Pfc. Ernest, Italy; and Seaman third class, Albert, serving in the Pacific.

His other brothers and sisters include Ben, Austinville, Ia.; Dick, St. Cloud, Minn.; Mrs. L. Johnson, St. Cloud; Mrs. G. Tjablem, Parkersburg, Ia.; Mrs. Same Van Heiden, Mrs. Henry Riebkes, and Mrs. Fred Kannigeter, all of Ackley, Ia.; Mrs. John Wehrman, Waterloo, and Sam, George, Grace, Lorraine, Evelyn, Ester, Marlys, and Arnold, at home in Wellsburg.
