Rites Held For John D. Beving, Ex-Businessman

Funeral services for John D. Beving were held on Monday, April 9, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

Pastor Roger Huitink officiated at the services. Pastor Huitink and Susan Huitink sang a selection accompanied by Mrs. Huitink on the piano. Pastor and Mrs. Huitink sang a selection accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist.

Casketbearers were Frederic Beving, LeRoy Beving, Arnold Arends, Donald Arends, Wendell Lindaman, and Harvey Behrends.

The interment service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

John D. Beving of Lakewood, CO passed away early Thursday morning, April 5, at the St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver, CO. He had been hospitalized for treatment for a week. He reached the age of 76 years, one month, and 29 days.

He was born on February 6, 1908, in Wellsburg, the son of Dick and Lena (Boomgarden) Beving and received his education in the Wellsburg Public School. John graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1924 and then attended University of Iowa graduating from there in 1928. In 1929 he attended the Worsham College of Embalming in Chicago where he received his mortuary education.

On October 21, 1934, he was married to Helen Staples in McGregor. They lived in Wellsburg following their marriage and continued to live there until they moved to Colorado in November of 1981 to make their home. This union was blessed with three daughters, Sharon, Sonna and Susan.

He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having joined by profession of faith on December 18, 1938.

He worked for Beving and Flessner for many years and later co-owned the business with his brother Raymond until 1967.

John served on the Wellsburg School Board and also was the Treasurer for the Town of Wellsburg for several years. He also had been a member of the Wellsburg Community Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, Luella and Margaret Beving.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Helen; three daughters, Mrs. William (Sharon) Lynch of Vinton; Mrs. Edward (Sonna) Ryan of Lakewood, CO; Mrs. Robert (Susan) Stielow of Boulder, CO; two brothers, Rev. Richard Beving of Sedona, AZ; Raymond Beving of Tuscon, AZ and many other relatives and friends.
