Joseph Baker Dies Thursday at Whitten

Joseph Baker, a long time resident in the Whitten community, died at his home last Thursday morning, following an illness that covered a period of about two years. He was 74 years old.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church at Whitten Saturday afternoon. The services were conducted by the local pastor. Burial was in the Benson cemetery near Whitten.

Mr. Baker was born March 22, 1864, in Louth, Lincolnshire, England, and came to America with his parents when he was 7 years old. Most of his life was spent in Hardin county.

His marriage to Sophia Jackey took place March 2, 1886. They were the parents of three children, two sons, Harry and Thomas, who died in infancy, and a daughter, Flossie, who died in June, 1931. Mrs. Baker died June 6, 1924.

Mr. Baker is survived by one sister, Mrs. Jennie Ingham, of Swaledale, and a number of nieces and nephews. He had lived alone in Whitten in recent years and since his illness had been under the care of a nurse. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Moon assisted in his care.
