Family Mourns The Passing Of Bryan Huisman

Funeral services for Bryan Huisman were held on Wednesday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Officiating clergyman was Pastor Roger Huitink.

Richard Schafer sang two selections accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist. Mrs. Jake B. Engelkes and Mrs. Elwin Harms were flower attendants.

Casket bearers were Keith Huisman, Ted Van Deest, Donald Dimke, Andrew Kadous, William Kadous and Arlo Sherburne. The interment service was held in the Shiloh Cemetery at Wellsburg.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mr. Huisman passed away at 10 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the Covenant Medical Center-Schoitz, in Waterloo due to an apparent heart attack. He had been taken to the hospital on the previous Friday afternoon. He reached the age of 83 years, 10 months and 27 days.

He was born July 4, 1902, in Holland, the son of Tile and Ettje (Kruger) Huisman. At an early age the family moved to Wellsburg to make their home. He attended the Wellsburg grade school.

On March 5, 1923, he was married to Anna Kadous at Aplington. Following their marriage they made their home in Wellsburg where they lived all of their married life.

Bryan was a long-time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

He began working for the Rock Island Railroad in Wellsburg in 1918 and later became track foreman for the railroad, a position he held for 47 years, retiring in 1965.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 2 daughters, Esther Johanna, who passed away on April 10, 1926; Dorothy, who passed away on February 2, 1947; a son in infancy; 2 brothers, Andrew Kruger and Theodore Huisman, and a sister, Dena Huisman.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Anna; 3 daughters, (Thelma) Mrs. Robert Willems of Ackley; (Beverly) Mrs. Richard Pugh of Alden; (Bonnie) Mrs. Edward Christians of Wellsburg; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters and 2 brothers, Mrs. Elizabeth Dimke of Wellsburg, Harm Huisman of Buffalo Center, Tyle Huisman of Wellsburg, (Esther) Mrs. William Van Deest of Grundy Center and many other relatives and friends.
