Last Rites For Grace Huisman Held Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Huisman were held on Monday, August 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Glenn Dieken officiated at the services.

Two selections "Amazing Grace" and "Does Jesus Care" were sung by Mrs. Harold Okones and Herman J. Koch. Miss Monica Doyen was organist and accompanist. Mrs. Lubert Meyer and Mrs. Jennie Etjen were flower attendants.

Casket bearers were John Kruse, Carl J. Nederhoff, Roy deNeui, Harold Okones, Herman Groote and Harm C. Meyer. Ushers were Elmer Fritzel and Harry Eckhoff.

Interment was in Shiloh cemetery in Wellsburg.

Arrangements were made by Doyen Funeral Home.

Mrs. Huisman passed away at 9:50 Friday evening, August 15, at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley due to heart failure. She reached the age of 89 years, seven months and 14 days.

She was born Grace Harriet Iblings, on January 1, 1897, in Parkersburg the daughter of Claus and Mattie (Slight) Iblings, and graduated from the Parkersburg High School followed by a term of Normal Teacher's Training at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

She taught in various country schools in the area and then on March 11, 1920, she was married to Frank Huisman at Parkersburg. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm north of Wellsburg, and later moved to Wellsburg where they engaged in the hatchery business for many years. Her husband passed away on August 25, 1953.

She returned to teaching in Grundy county rural schools and retired in 1966.

She was a long-time member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made confession of faith on June 6, 1954, and also was a member of the Willing Workers Society of the church.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Frank; her three sons, John Burton Huisman, who passed away on November 17, 1983; Charles Lee Huisman, who passed away on August 8, 1985; Dennis Dee Huisman, who passed away on November 4, 1968; two brothers, Earl and Carl Iblings; two sisters, Mrs. Annette Joseph and Mrs. Matilda Vietor.

Survivors include: her three daughter-in-laws; Mrs. Marjorie Huisman of Cheyenne, WY; Mrs. Joyce Huisman of Ames; Mrs. Vaneda Doyen of Wellsburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Martha Peters of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
