Rites Held For Grace Fischer

Grace (Huisman) Fischer was born on November 2, 1895, in Shiloh Township north of Wellsburg, IA. She passed away on January 12 at 10:25 a.m. at the Long Term Care unit of the Grundy Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center. She attained the age of 94 years, two months and 10 days.

She was the daughter of John and Mathilda Schultz Huisman. Grace attended rural schools in the Wellsburg area. In 1914 she moved to Wellsburg with her parents and worked for H. B. Koolman's general store and the local telephone office.

On October 30, 1916, she was united in marriage to John L. Fischer at Clarion, IA. They made their home in Wellsburg where Jack was employed by Beving & Flessner in the hardware business. In 1931, he started his own hardware, plumbing, and heating business. Grace was an outgoing person who loved young people, and she made many friends. She enjoyed doing things for others.

Grace was a long time member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg, and was an active member of the Willing Workers Society until conditions and health forced her to retire. Since WWII she was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Shiloh Homemakers.

She was admitted to the long term care unit of the Grundy Memorial Hospital November 2, 1988.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, and two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Harold of Wellsburg, IA, and one daughter, Mildred Clifford of Evansville, IN, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fischer were held at the Second Christian Reformed Church, Wellsburg, on Monday, January 15, 1990, at 10:30 a.m. Reverend Thomas J. Vos officiated.

Mr. Richard Schafer sang "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "He Touched Me." He was accompanied by Mrs. LuRay Neessen, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Ivan Slifer, David Deike, Ralph Huisman, Eugene Huisman, John G. Clifford, and James L. Fischer.

Tielko Bunger and John Hoodjer were ushers. Minnie Taffinder and Luella Lindaman were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Shiloh Township Cemetery in Wellsburg, IA.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
