Vernon Eckhoff Fatally Hurt In Farm Accident

Funeral services for Vernon Eckhoff were held on Saturday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Rev. John H. Elenbaas officiated.

Mr. Eckhoff passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 14, due to injuries received in a construction machinery accident, on a farm northeast of Morrison. He reached the age of 42 years, 6 months and 21 days.

Mrs. Ivan Slifer and Mrs. Harold Okones sang two selections. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft was organist. Flower ladies were Mrs. David Taffinder and Mrs. Myles Meyer.

Pall bearers were Dennis Ihns, Mark Peterson, Gordon Main, William Heithoff, David Dirks, and Ward McClure.

The interment service was held in Shiloh Cemetery at Wellsburg.

Vernon was born in Grundy Center on September 23, 1939, the son of George J. and Florence (Ackerman) Eckhoff and graduated from the Wellsburg High School with the class of 1957.

He was married to Donna Meyer on February 7, 1981 at Ardmore, Oklahoma. They lived in Oklahoma until July of 1981 and then moved back to Iowa to make their home in Traer.

He became a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg by confession of faith on December 8, 1963 and then on July 28, 1975 transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian Church of Reinbeck.

For the past seven years Vernon was employed by Peterson Contractors, Inc. of Reinbeck.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence, who passed away on February 22, 1981.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Donna Eckhoff of Traer; his son, Randall J. Eckhoff of Reinbeck; his 3 step-children, Darron, Todd and Amy Jo Meyer; his father George J. Eckhoff of Wellsburg; his sister (Eunice) Mrs. Gary Frerichs of Clear Lake, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
